Leads Us To God Through Jesus
The Holy Spirit(Ghost) has been
talked about quite often in the bible but seems to be more a messenger than
a Holy being. You could not be farther from the truth. Although his
appearances are quiet and comforting he is still a holy being and one of the
Trinity. It is the fact that he is a being that I will attempt to show with
the following verses. The reason being is that of the three(Father, Son &
Holy Ghost), I find most people have trouble believing in the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is also known as the comforter.
Matthew 12:31
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be
forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be
forgiven unto men.
Matthew 12:32
And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be
forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be
forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Mark 3:29
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never
forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
These are scary thoughts. If we can
blaspheme against Jesus who died to save us and yet are damned for
blaspheming against the Holy Spirit, then perhaps we should think twice
before we just dismiss the Holy Spirit.
Mark 13:11
But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought
beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever
shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak,
but the Holy Ghost.
Here we see the Holy Spirit as a guide and
counselor. It is comforting to know that those who have faith need not worry
but may rest assured that we are not alone in our troubled times.
John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in
my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your
remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
In this verse we see the Holy Spirit as
"HE". A being. We also see a shadowing of Trinity in this verse. (Jesus
saying the Father will send the Holy Ghost) <This topic will be covered in
more detail in the Unity section that follows>
Next you will see that the 'Spirit of God'
is the Holy Ghost. In Luke it will show that the Holy Ghost descended on
Jesus in the shape of a dove. However if you look at the same instance in
Matthew you will see that the Spirit of God descended on Jesus. From this we
can conclude that the Holy Ghost is also known as the Spirit of God.
Luke 3:21
Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also
being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
Luke 3:22
And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and
a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am
well pleased.
Matthew 3:16
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water:
and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Knowing this we also read the following.
Ephesians 4:30
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day
of redemption.
The Holy Ghost can also be grieved.
Therefore I say to you, that the Holy Ghost is a being, just as God is, and
not just a force of will, as some might believe.
Acts 1:16
Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which
the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which
was guide to them that took Jesus.
The Holy Ghost came through David as a
warning and a testament to that which would take place concerning Jesus
Christ. He granted us foreknowledge so that we might know the Son of God.
And even with this knowledge and other prophecies given to man which were
fulfilled, man did not believe. The same applies to us today. We have been
given our signs, our warnings, and still there are many who do not believe
today.
Acts 5:32
And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost,
whom God hath given to them that obey him.
The Holy Ghost will only be present with
those who believe and worship God through Jesus. As witnesses we who do
believe should talk to and discuss God with those who do not. If the unsaved
do not hear about God from us, then who will tell them? If we allow the
opportunity to tell someone about God pass by, who will be held responsible
for that person not knowing? That person for being ignorant or us who are
not ignorant but is unwilling to be a witness of God? Each time we witness
to another person, that person has the opportunity to gain eternal life.
Acts 7:51
Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist
the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
Do You? Do you still not believe even after
all that's been said? Do you resist? If you do than you've missed out on one
of our greatest blessings. For just as this section on the Holy Ghost talks
much about Jesus and God. So to does the Holy Spirit speak to us about such
matters, that we might know the Lord and his Son and be saved.
1 John 5:7 For there are three
that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and
these three are one.
